Luckner Lazard was born In Port-au-Prince, Haiti on July 7, 1928, and died in Jacmel in 1998. From 1945 to 1950, he studied painting and sculpture at the Centre d’Art under the direction of Dewitt Peters, Albert Mangones, Lucien Price, and John Seley before receiving a scholarship in 1951 to study in Paris, France.Lazard came back to Haiti and settled in Carrefour, where he hosted a gathering of artists every Friday and Saturday. In 1956, It was at one of these gatherings that the group, consisting of the noted artists Dieudonné Cédor, Roland Dorcely, Jean-Claude Garoute, (Ti-Ga), Jacques Gabriel and Néhémy Jean conceived the idea of opening their gallery, the Brochette Gallery. These sophisticated artists were looking to distance themselves from the naive painters and the “Foyer des Arts Plastiques”. Haitian art came into its own and its genesis goes back very far, well before the emergence of the Haitian people, before the arrival of slave ships and the caravels of Columbus (1492).In the marvelous paintings realized by the Taino Indians on the walls of caves and the colored graphics they made on their naked bodies and the walls of their huts. The painting tradition was consolidated and enriched in the world wind of Saint Domingue with the works of talented Negroes and reached its first blossoming in the newly born Haitian nation under the governments of Christophe, Petion, Boyer and Soulouque with painters such as Thimoleon Dejoie, Numa Desroches, Colbert Lochard, and his son Archibald Lochard. - Abelard, Gesner. 1922 (Born in Port-au-Prince). Joined the Centre d'Art in 1946. His paintings are known by the unusual birds and trees which abound in them.

Started drawing with Jean-Marie Guilloux and sculpture with Normil Charles. He was secret agent of President Elie Lescot. In 1948, invited by DeWitt Peters to join the Centre d'Art where he worked until 1959. One of the most popular Haitian artistists. Known as a painter of flowers, birds and biblical scenes.
