    CHANDIGARH: Appointment of Sumedh Singh Saini as the Punjab director general of police (DGP) has come under the radar of Supreme Court. An appeal against the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court, upholding Saini's selection as state police chief, was filed in the apex court on Friday.
    On April 11, the high court had dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of Saini as DGP after observing that he was "legally competent" to hold the post.
    The appeal against HC orders came up for hearing before a division bench of the SC comprising Justice R M Lodha and Justice Madan B Lokur on Friday. After hearing the appeal, the bench ordered to disassociate Simranjit Singh, an advocate from Mohali, from the case as the appellant and referred the case before its legal service cell for further consideration.
