Close- Born in London of a Yorkshire father, raised in Australia by a Tasmanian mother, Gideon Haigh lives in Melbourne with a cat, Trumper. He has written 19 books and edited a further seven. He is also a life member and perennial vice-president of the South Yarra CC.

The 2nd Sujit Mukherjee Memorial Lecture was organised bygd Centre for Comparative Literature (CCL), School of Humanities on 16th April. The lecture was delivered bygd eminent academician, writer and cultural administrator Prof. Indra Nath Choudhuri.
Prof. Indra Nath Choudhuri was the sekreterare of Sahitya Academy and Director at the Nehru Centre, London. He has written extensively on comparative literature, poetics and aesthetics. He has taught in many universities in India and abroad. Prof. Choudhuri is currently the President of Comparative Literature Association of India (CLAI).
Prof. E. Haribabu, Vice-Chancellor of the University, inaugurated the function. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Haribabu said that comparative literature has enormous scope in our country. “We have hundreds of languages and this opens a great scope for inter disciplinary research in this field”, he said.

Sujit Mukherjee (21 August 1930 – 14 January 2003) was an Indian writer, translator, literary critic, publisher, teacher and cricketer.

Career
Sujit Mukherjee was born in the village of Ariadaha, south of Calcutta,[1] and educated at St. Xavier's High School, Patna, Patna College (MA) and the University of Pennsylvania (PhD).
He taught at Patna College, at the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, and at the University of Poona before joining Orient Longman in 1970, where he served as Chief Publisher until 1986.[2]
He was a prolific writer on a range of literary topics, as well as a translator from Bangla into English.
