ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT
Sobel's act gets various reviews By Christopher Richardson LIFE Arts & Entertainment Editor Comedian Barry Sobel performed for a crowd of about 500 CMU students in Warriner Auditor! unt Friday night. Sobel’s hour-long performance followed two local opening acts. Ryan Hopak, Fenton junior, and John Zehnder. Frakenmuth senior and Program Board vice president, performed short stand-up routines before Sobel took the stage. The Brooklyn native, who has done his stand-up routine on his own HBO special and on “The Tonight Show,’’ began his show with a mixture of rap and punchlines (just punchlines — no “legitimate jokes”), and moved into composing his routine while the audience watched and actively participated. Crowd reaction was mixed. Ryan Barnum. Clarksville freshman, didn’t like Sobel. “He made fun of every race and he was singing more than he was telling jokes,” he said. Barnum said he did like Sobel’s Howard Cosell impression,
though.
