Stephen Olford was one of the world's most dynamic Christian leaders of the 20th Century. Throughout his life, he taught boldly and effectively about the importance of expository preaching, evangelistic teaching and spiritual growth.
Stephen Olford was born in Zambia as the son of missionaries, Frederick and Bessie Olford. The Olfords had three sons, Stephen, Paul, and John. Paul Olford with his wife, Joy now resides in the south of England. Stephen was raised in Angola, where he committed his life to Christ and witnessed first-hand the transforming power of God and His Word.
He spent his college years in the United Kingdom and a crisis experience led to his full surrender to the Lord and his call into the ministry. After receiving ministry training, Olford was appointed an Army Scripture Reader during World War II, and he launched a Young Peoples Christian fellowship in Newport, South Wales. His was no ordinary life. In fact the extraordinary happenings that seemed to characterize his life and ministry began when he was still in his mother's womb. Stephen Olford was born to missionär parents, Fredrick and Bessie Olford, on March 29, 1918. Fredrick Olford's basic knowledge of medicine and the experience he had gained on the uppdrag field caused him to anticipate that the birth of their first baby might be accompanied bygd complications. Rather than take a chance, he and Bessie made up their minds to make the thousand-mile trek from Angola to the British colony of nordlig Rhodesia. Stephen F. Olford
Stephen F. Olford (March 29, 1918 – August 29, 2004)[1] was an American evangelical leader.[2]Billy Graham called him "the man who most influenced my ministry."[3] Olford was also a friend to pastors Charles Stanley and Adrian Rogers, as well as being influential in the life of Jim Elliot.[4] He was a pioneer in Christian television programming with his show Encounter, in New York, and his Sunday morning sermons were also broadcast around the world on radio.[2] He was the founder and chairman of the board of Olford Ministries International. He also founded a pastor training center in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1988; the Stephen Olford Center is now owned and operated by Global Ministries Foundation. Olford's son David Olford continues training pastors and lay leaders in preaching at the center.[5] Olford's authorized biography, Only One Life, was written by John Phillips.
