After winning the American Motocross Association (AMA) cc Motocross series for three consecutive years, Ricky Carmichael moved up to the cc class and won that series for the next three years. Richard Joseph Carmichael (born November 27, ) is an American former professional motocross and supercross racer. Widely regarded as one of the greatest riders of all time,[1] Carmichael won 15 AMA Motocross and Supercross championships, including a record-setting 10 AMA Motocross cc championships and five AMA Supercross cc titles. He holds the record for the most overall motocross wins in AMA history ( wins) and was twice undefeated in the outdoor motocross series (, ). He also represented Team USA in the Motocross des Nations three times, contributing to several victories.[2]
After retiring from professional motocross in , Carmichael transitioned to stock car racing, competing in the ARCA Racing Series and NASCARCamping World Truck Series between and [3] He secured multiple top-ten finishes before returning focus to motocross-related ventures.

In , he concluded a record-setting run in the amateur ranks by capturing his ninth AMA Amateur National Championship at the prestigious Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch. He accumulated a total of 67 amateur motocross national championships. He got his first taste of professional motocross in , showing signs of his upcoming greatness, and earned the AMA Motocross Rookie of the Year award. He didn't slow down in , earning a few Eastern Region cc Supercross race wins, as well as dominating the cc National Motocross Championship Series aboard his Pro Circuit Kawasaki, capturing his first professional championship.
