  • Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Shares Happy Birthday meddelande to James Hetfield

Yesterday (Aug. 3), Metallica singer and guitarist James Hetfield turned 58 years old and his bandmate, drummer Lars Ulrich, extended a happy birthday meddelande his way on social media, celebrating decades of good times while stating they were "just getting started."

Hetfield was born on Aug. 3, 1963 in Downey, California and began playing in bands as a teenager, notably Leather Charm and Obsession, before linking up with Lars Ulrich to form Metallica in the fall of 1981 after the drummer had secured a song spot on an upcoming Metal Blade compilation, Metal Massacre.

Metallica is an American heavy metal band. It was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career.[1][2] The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica's current lineup comprises founding members and primary songwriters Hetfield and Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine, who formed Megadeth after being fired from Metallica, and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted are former members of the band.

Metallica first found commercial success with the release of its third album, Master of P

    Early Life[]

Lars Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963, in Gentofte, Denmark to Torben Ulrich, a tennis player. Saxophonist Dexter Gordon was Ulrich's godfather. In February 1973, Torben obtained five passes for five of his friends to a Deep Purple concert that was being held in the same Copenhagen stadium as one of his tournaments. When it was discovered that one of the friends could not go, their ticket was handed over to the nine-year-old Ulrich. The young Ulrich found himself mesmerized by the performance, buying the band's Fireball album the next day. The concert and the album had a considerable impact on
