  • These translations are an anthology of poems that appeal to me, poems that express themes that I write about in my journals and in my own poems.
  • Below are descriptions of selected books published both by and about Romanian American communities in the Library of Congress collections.
  • Romanian Authors in English

According to general belief, translations from Romanian into English are scarce and mostly unsatisfactory. In reality, the major libraries of the English-speaking world host more than 500 Romanian books in English translation, including most canonical titles, from which English readers can get a clear idea about the evolution of Romanian literature over more than 100 years. Although the translations are unequal and some of the books can be difficult to access, this is a substantial and valuable bibliography, definitely worth revisiting.

Have you ever wondered how many Romanian books are available in English translation? The most common assumption among Romanians themselves is that the number is small to very small (and, in any case, insufficient). I started from this pessimistic assessment, with the secret hope to see it at least partially contradicted, to find out how big the library of Romanian authors in English translation actually is.

Integrating interview-based approaches into corpus-based translation studies and literary translation studies

    1 Introduction

We början by specifying that our integrated ramverk encompasses two main areas, namely corpus-based translation studies (CBTS) and literary translation studies (LTS), both areas claiming a high beskrivning, an independent status, i.e. a separation from the overarching field of translation studies (TS), although they are, to some extent, conceptually and methodologically indebted to it. 2 CBTS – inward- and outward-looking perspectives

    Scînteia Tineretului

Scînteia Tineretului ("Youth Spark"; originally spelled Scânteia Tineretului) was a central organ of the Union of Communist Youth (UTC), which was itself a youth branch of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR). Appearing daily between November 1944 and December 1989, it served as a companion to the main PCR newspaper, Scînteia. It was founded during the last stages of World War II, in what was then still a Kingdom of Romania. Its publication was facilitated by the August 1944 Coup, which ended Romania's alliance with the Axis Powers, brought her under the influence of the Soviet Union, and legalized communist organizations. Scînteia Tineretului was founded by journalist Mihnea Gheorghiu, and, during its first months, hosted numerous political articles by the future PCR leader, Nicolae Ceaușescu. The newspaper played a part in the country's re-foundation as a people's (later socialist) republic, becoming a vehicle for diffusing the tenets of Marxism-Len
