For the episode, see Igraine (episode).
Igraine Pendragon was the mother of King Arthur Pendragon, the former wife of the late Duke of Cornwall, the former wife of the late King Uther and the lover of Merlin.
Personality[]
Igraine has lived a life of deep pain and agony over the loss of her child - whose fate she had not known until now. Though estranged from the son, who never knew her, and despised by Morgan for the role she played in her father's madness, she has never lost her faith or her heart. When Merlin produces Arthur as the rightful heir to the throne, Igraine quickly (and not surprisingly) becomes an ally and figure of strength for her son and the entire court of Camelot.
Season 1[]
Igraine was originally brought up with her family, and described her childhood as comfortable, and herself as "strong, opinionated, and full of hope". She dreamt of a husband who would treat her as an equal - according to her, she never got this wish.

Lady Igraine
Ygraine, Ygerna, Eigyr - The Lady Igraine remains on of the most fascinating but mysterious characters in Arthurian Legend. There is little reference to her other than the role she played in the coming of Arthur, however, all accounts, no matter by whom written, have remained virtually the same. This leads most to believe that the Lady Igraine is one of the few characters in the legend that was an actual person whos history is documented well.
Igraine's lineage is strong and there has been little arguement as to the truth. She is decendant from Joseph of Arimathea (who was said to have captured the blood of Christ in the Holy Grail). This made an interesting choice for mother of Arthur who would eventually quest after the Grail itself to restore his kingdom. It was possible that Igraine's bloodline was necessary for sucess in this venture; therefore being chosen specifically to birth Arthur. She was the daughter of Amlawdd although her mother was never mentioned.I
