  • When Madhuri Dixit  broke down during a book release function in front of a vast , pre-dominantly Maharashtrian audience at the historic Ravindra Natya Mandir last week, there was pin drop silence. She took her time to compose herself, tears flowing down her alabaster cheeks. When she spoke about the late Gautam Rajadhyaksha, it was with genuine love for a man whose goodness had touched the hearts of so many people. Gautam referred to Madhuri as his daughter ( the other daughter being Kaajol). And Madhuri’s was the face Gautam picked for the cover of his superb book, aptly titled ‘Faces’. • A chapter in my life closes with the heart breaking demise of Gautam Rajadhyaksha, the one to do my first ever portfolio, my first cover, you may know him as a photographer – I call him bhaiyya.

Recently when I visited his home, each nook and corner had some story to tell, some history to be unfolded of the initiation of a newcomer’s journey into stardom. He was filled with passion – passion for music, art, opera. He was a collector, his house is now like a treasure trove for any artiste.

It’s really sad that he passed away without seeing his Pune project completed, he was so eager to inaugurate it on the 16th September which also happens to be his birthday.

Going down memory lane I still remember walking in for shoots and insisting he plays Ashatai’s songs…

He had the best collection of my favourites – RD Burman and Ashatai (Asha Bhonsle). The first 30 mins we would only discuss music and then get to work over hot cups of garam chai.

Gautam bhaiyya was a beautiful, givi
